Coming up in plenary: EU-Japan deal, Sakharov Prize, carcinogens
MEPs will award the 2018 Sakharov Prize and vote on the new EU-Japan trade agreement during this week's plenary session in Strasbourg.
EU-Japan partnership
On Wednesday, MEPs will vote on the new EU-Japan trade agreement. It would make it easier for European companies to export to Japan, while a planned strategic partnership will boost cooperation on common challenges such as security and the environment.
Sakharov prize
The 2018 Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought award ceremony takes place on Wednesday at noon. The laureate is imprisoned Ukrainian filmmaker Oleg Sentsov. Since 1988, Parliament has awarded the Sakharov Prize to individuals and organisations that defend human rights and fundamental freedoms.
Future of Europe
Cypriot president Nicos Anastasiades will discuss the future of Europe with MEPs on Wednesday. It will be the 14th debate in the series.
Brexit
Also on Wednesday, MEP’s will debate the outcome of the Brexit vote in the British parliament, its consequences and the state of play.

Also on Parliament’s agenda:
- Recommendations of Parliament’s special committee on terrorism
- The EU's 2019 budget
- Stricter rules to further eliminate and reduce carcinogens and mutagens in the workplace.
- Coordination of social security systems
On Monday, President Antonio Tajani will accept the Flame of Peace on behalf of Parliament. The flame, a symbol of peace, comes to Strasbourg from Bethlehem.
